Our first family camping trip is in the books! It was a fun, rewarding and sometimes stressful adventure. t’s been almost a week since we returned and I think we finally have everything unpacked and are mostly caught up on sleep.
10 Things We Learned from Our First Family Camping Trip
I thought it would be fun to document a few things we learned during the trip. These are in no particular order:
1. We need to make a reservation further in advance to get a more ideal campsite for tent camping.
2. We probably don’t need to bring as many clothes as we though—even when it’s cold—because hoodies and outerwear get worn several times.
3. Bringing a potty chair for the campsite is very helpful if you have a toddler (and comes in handing in the middle of the night for other family members).
4. A campground with a small playground is nice when you have young children. We spent quite a bit of time there in between meals and planned activities.
5. Don’t buy last-minute firewood from Lowe’s. It burns up in an hour…
6. Do not forget to bring a mallet or hammer for the tent stakes!
7. Everyone will get grumpy at some point, but a little food and rest usually helps.
8. A good camp stove is worth the investment. Warm oatmeal was so nice to have on the cold mornings.
9. Most everyone sleeps better after the first night because they are exhausted and it’s more routine.
10. Having appropriate expectations, flexibility, and a good attitude will determine how much fun you have.
